Use your number with another provider
Connect a WhatsApp number to WA.cr while another provider keeps using it.
You can connect a number to WA.cr while another provider still uses it. You don't need to disconnect it there. Meta's new account model lets one WhatsApp number work with several providers. Meta is moving businesses to that model in stages until mid-October 2026.
Steps
- Keep the number connected to your other provider.
- In WA.cr, open Settings, then Connect WhatsApp, and connect the number as usual.
- Decide which tool answers your customers (see below).
- Add a payment method for WA.cr's messaging account (see Complete billing setup).
- Send yourself a test message from WA.cr.
Who answers
- At first, every provider on the number gets every incoming message. If both tools reply automatically, your customer gets two answers. Until you set up routing, let only one tool reply automatically.
- In Meta Business Suite, you can choose one provider for each way a chat starts: a customer messaging you, a Click to WhatsApp ad, a reply to a utility message, a reply to a marketing message, and an incoming call. For replies to utility and marketing messages, you can instead send each reply to the provider that sent the message. Set it for all your numbers or for one number.
- Once a provider has a chat, the customer's messages keep going to it until the chat has been quiet for 24 hours or that provider hands it back. A tap on your ad, or on a button in a utility or marketing message, sends the chat through your routing choices again.
- Once routing is set up, WA.cr can send a normal reply only in chats it has. In other chats, send a template. Templates can go out whichever provider has the chat.
What the providers share
- Speed: the number has one sending speed, whichever tool is sending. A big campaign from one provider slows the other.
- Daily limit: the number of people you can start conversations with in 24 hours is shared too.
- Quality rating: it belongs to the number, so blocks and reports count against it whichever tool sent the message.
- Profile, name and catalogue: they belong to the number. A change made in one tool shows in the other.
- Going offline: any provider can take the number offline. WA.cr never does this when you disconnect the number. Changing its storage location takes it offline for a few minutes, and WA.cr checks first.
What stays separate
- Templates: each provider keeps its own. Templates you made elsewhere don't appear in WA.cr.
- Billing with Meta: each provider has its own messaging account, with its own payment method.
- Delivery ticks: they go back to whichever tool sent the message.
What WA.cr can't see
- Messages the other provider sends, and chats that don't come to WA.cr, aren't in your WA.cr inbox.
- If a customer last wrote to the other provider, WA.cr may ask you to use a template even though the chat is open there.
- An opt-out given to the other provider doesn't reach WA.cr. Update the contact in WA.cr too.
If sign-up says the number is in use
- Meta hasn't moved your business to its new account model yet. It is doing so in stages until mid-October 2026.
- Try again once it has. If you're leaving the other provider anyway, you can remove the number there instead.
- If WA.cr says the number is connected to another WA.cr business, disconnect it there first.
