Receiving your WhatsApp verification call

A newly rented number forwards WhatsApp's verification call to your mobile. It is a setup aid with an allowance of five answered calls, not a calling service.

A number you've just rented sends its calls straight to your mobile — that's how the verification call WhatsApp places reaches you when you connect the number. Your phone shows the rented number as the caller, so you know which line is ringing.

This is a setup aid, not a calling service. It exists to get one call to you, it is capped at five answered calls, and it is not how the number will answer your customers.

Steps

To change where the calls go:

  1. Open Numbers under Voice.
  2. Open the number's card and expand its details.
  3. Under Verification forwarding, choose to change the destination.
  4. Enter the new number — a landline is fine.
  5. Confirm with the one-time code: sent on WhatsApp, or a phone call that reads it out — your choice.
  6. Done. The very next call uses the new destination.

Pointing it at the mobile you signed up with needs no code — you've already proved that one is yours.

Why there's an allowance

Forwarding exists so the verification call can reach you — it's part of renting a number, not a phone system. Each number can forward five answered calls; after the fifth, forwarding switches itself off.

A call nobody answered doesn't count. If your phone sat on silent through WhatsApp's retries, those attempts are handed back — only calls you actually picked up use the allowance. Unanswered forwarded calls cost nothing either.

Even so, forwarding stops for good after fifteen attempts, answered or not.

The number's card shows the running count — "2 of 5 verification calls used".

When the allowance is used up

Callers hear a short apology and the call ends. The number itself is unaffected: WhatsApp keeps working, the rent is unchanged, and the call history stays.

If what you actually want is calls answered on this number, that was never forwarding's job — switch the number to a Call menu. That's the phone-system feature, and it has no allowance. The forwarding allowance is the same on every number.

The WhatsApp verification call

When you connect a number to WhatsApp, Meta places an ordinary phone call to it and reads out a code. Your rented number forwards that call to you like any other — answer it, note the code, type it into the connect screen.

This works even where voice calling is off for the workspace: forwarding belongs to the number's rental, not to the voice features.

If it doesn't work

  • The verification call didn't arrive — check the destination and the allowance on the number's card, then request the call again from the connect screen.
  • The change-destination code doesn't arrive on WhatsApp — pick the voice-call option instead; it reads the code out, and works on landlines.
  • The card says the allowance is used up — build a call menu for the number, or talk to us.
