Say where your products are really made

Payment requests on WhatsApp have to state a country of origin for each item, and every item said India because there was nowhere to record anything else. Products now have a Country of origin field.

Released 18 August 2026

A payment request sent on WhatsApp has to state where each item was made. There was nowhere in WA.cr to record that, so every item said India — whether or not it was true. If you sell imported stock, that was a declaration made to your customer, in the payment request itself, that did not match the goods in the parcel.

Products now have a Country of origin field. Open Products, edit a product, and fill it in. Payment requests use what you have set.

If your goods are made in India

Nothing changes and there is nothing to do. A product with the field left blank still says India, exactly as before, so none of your existing payment requests are affected.

The difference is that it is now an assumption you can correct, rather than the only thing we were able to say.

If you sell imported goods

This is worth a few minutes. Go through the products you resell and set the country each one was actually made in — the field takes either a country name or its two-letter code, so both "Italy" and "IT" work.

Until you do, those items will keep saying India, because that is the only answer available when a product has not been given one.

What has not changed

Two other details on the same payment request — the importer's name and address — were already right and are untouched. Those describe your business, as the one receiving the payment, rather than where the goods came from. It is easy to read the two as contradicting each other on a request for imported goods; they are answering different questions.

If your products come from a connected catalogue rather than being typed in by hand, country of origin is read from the catalogue and this field does not come into it.
