A working WhatsApp number no longer asks to be verified again

An active number whose one-time verification has lapsed no longer shows a Needs you item or a red count, and Verify number says when it is really needed.

Released 1 November 2026

No more false alarms: a WhatsApp number that is working normally no longer asks you to verify it.

What's new

  • Quiet when nothing is wrong — on an active number, a lapsed verification code is no longer a Needs you item or part of the Settings tab's red count.
  • Still flagged when it matters — a number that is pending, offboarded or unregistered still gets the Needs you item with Verify number beside it.
  • Verify number explains itself — on the Profile tab, one line says it is needed only when the number is registered again, for example to change where its data is stored or to reset its two-step PIN.
  • Data storage asks up front — moving a number's data asks for a fresh code first, with Verify number right there.
