Play back and read your recorded calls

A line set to record has always told you a recording exists. Until now that is all it did — you could not actually listen to it, and it quietly expired. Recordings are now saved into your own workspace as soon as the call ends, and a player appears under the call in the line's Call history.

What's new

• Press play on any recorded call — open Call history on the line and the recording is right there under the call. It plays from your workspace, not from the phone network, so it keeps working long after the network's own link has expired.
• Recordings are private to your workspace — the audio is never a public link, and it is stored alongside the rest of your workspace's media.
• Read the call instead of listening to it — workspaces with transcription set to Automatic get the text of the call under the player. Skimming a five-minute call takes about twenty seconds.
• Long calls say "Transcribing…" for a while — a phone call is minutes long rather than seconds, so it is handed to a background engine and the text appears when it is finished. Calls longer than two hours are not transcribed.
• A recording that genuinely could not be saved says so — instead of sitting there for ever looking like it is still arriving, the call tells you the audio could not be saved.
• Calls whose result never came back no longer sit unfinished — a check now runs every ten minutes and asks what really happened to a call, so one that got stuck as "ringing" is finished, billed and filed within minutes instead of disappearing.

Transcription runs only on Automatic, on purpose. It costs money and counts against your monthly allowance, and a workspace that chose to transcribe voice notes one at a time has not thereby agreed to transcribe every call its line records. You can change this under your transcription setting.
