Messages Meta does not charge for no longer cost you

When WhatsApp confirms it billed nothing for a message, the charge is corrected and the difference goes straight back into your wallet — automatically, with the refund shown in your billing history.

Released 4 September 2026

Some of the template messages you send are free from WhatsApp — a reminder or an order update that lands while a conversation is already open costs WhatsApp nothing. Until now you were still charged for those. From this release you are not, and the difference comes back on its own.

What's new

  • The charge is corrected from WhatsApp's own answer. Your message is priced the moment it is sent, but WhatsApp only tells us what it actually cost a few seconds later, when it confirms delivery. We now read that answer. If it says the message was free, the charge is re-worked to our own flat fee and nothing more.
  • The difference goes back into your wallet. It is credited automatically, with the tax that was charged on it, within seconds of the message being delivered. No request, no wait, no ticket.
  • You can see it happen. The credit appears in Settings → Billing as a refund line naming the message it belongs to, so a small return in your balance is never a mystery.

Worth knowing

  • This is about messages you already sent. Nothing changes in how you write or send anything, and no message behaves differently — only what it costs.
  • Which messages are free is WhatsApp's decision, not ours. Typically it is a template sent while your customer's conversation window is still open. We do not guess at it in advance, because guessing would sometimes be wrong; we wait for WhatsApp to confirm and then settle it.
  • Messages WhatsApp does charge for are unaffected. Most template messages are billed normally and are priced exactly as before.
  • Invoices already issued are left alone. If a charge has already appeared on a monthly invoice, it is not quietly rewritten — get in touch and we will sort it out properly.
