Decide who can delete chats and contacts

Two new role permissions — deleting a chat's history and deleting a contact — so destructive actions only happen when you've explicitly allowed them.

Released 10 July 2026

Deleting is now a permission you grant — not something anyone can do by accident.

What's new

  • Delete chats is a new permission in Settings → Roles. It permanently erases a conversation's message history for the whole workspace — so it's off for everyone, including the Owner, until you switch it on. The contact itself is kept.
  • Even with the permission, deleting a chat asks for a verification code sent to your WhatsApp — the same safeguard as removing a number.
  • Delete contacts is now its own permission, separate from editing contacts. Managers have it by default; other roles only if you grant it. You'll find a Delete button on the contact's profile page and card.
  • Both actions ask for confirmation and are recorded in your audit log, so you can always see who deleted what.
