A failed order action says what happened
Fulfil in Shopify, Mark paid and the status dropdown used to look identical whether they worked or not. They now report the reason — and an order that fails to load is no longer reported as missing.
Released 9 September 2026
An order action that fails now tells you so, in the store's own words where there are any — instead of quietly looking exactly like one that worked.
What's new
- A refused fulfilment says who refused it. Fulfil in Shopify threw the store's answer away, so a fulfilment the store rejected reloaded the page and looked like a success. It now shows what the store said — for example "The store refused the fulfilment: Order already fulfilled" — so you know whether to try again or go and look.
- Mark paid and the status dropdown report failures too. Both used the same silent path. A change that was refused, or that you don't have permission to make, now says so instead of appearing to have been applied.
- An order that won't load is no longer called missing. If the connection dropped while opening an order, the page said Order not found. over an order that was still there — including one you had just changed. Only a genuine missing order says that now; anything else explains itself and offers Try again.
- An Indian WhatsApp number is no longer told it isn't Indian. When WhatsApp wouldn't hand back your saved payments-compliance record, the editor announced that compliance applies to India (+91) numbers only and hid itself, leaving no way back in. It now stays open, shows why the record couldn't be read, and lets you fill it in and save.
Nothing about how orders or compliance details work has changed. These screens were already asking the right questions; the answers were being thrown away before anyone could read them.
