WA.cr

A blocked contact stays blocked on every number

When a blocked contact gains, loses or merges numbers, WA.cr now updates the WhatsApp block for you, and tells you about any number it couldn't block yet.

Released 9 October 2026

Blocking a contact used to cover only the numbers it held at that moment. Now the block keeps up: add a number to a blocked contact and it's blocked too, remove one and it's unblocked.

What's new

  • A number you add is blocked too. It happens straight away when WhatsApp allows it. WhatsApp only blocks a number within 24 hours of its last message to you, so otherwise WA.cr blocks it as soon as that number next messages you.
  • A number you remove is unblocked, so nobody is left blocked after their number leaves the contact.
  • Moving a number to its own contact keeps it blocked. The new contact starts blocked wherever the original was.
  • Merging keeps the block. If either contact was blocked on one of your numbers, the merged contact is blocked there, with all of its numbers. Undoing the merge puts things back.
  • You can see what's still to come. Under a blocked channel in Block on WhatsApp, a short note says how many of the contact's numbers aren't blocked there yet, and why.

Worth knowing

  • No more unblock-and-block-again. You used to have to unblock a contact before removing a number, and block again after adding one. That's no longer needed.
  • On a WhatsApp number you also use with another provider, nothing changes in the background. Its block list is shared with that provider, so WA.cr leaves it alone. The note under the channel says how many of the contact's numbers to block from there.
